MS IN CIVIL ENGINEERING

Well, if you are a civil engineer from India, interested in studying further this post will be very helpful.

1) Should I go for an M.Tech or an MS??
A) The answer to this question lies in what specialization you choose and whether you are interested in going abroad or not. IISC bangalore is known to have a better Structures Department than some of the top 20 colleges in US. If you are interested in transportation, the branch is almost dead in India as not much of what is required at UG or PG level. In case of Geotech, Environmental and Water resources the kind of exposure you get abroad is tremendous.

2) What is the GRE score required??
A) Any score above 1250 is considered acceptable, ab0ve 1350 decent and above 1400 well extraordinary in case of Civil Engineering.

3) What are the job oppurtunities after MS and Mtech??
A) There are loads of jobs for civil engineers right now, irrespective of specialization both in India and abroad, so one needn't worry about it. Anyways chances of getting a job are Structures > Transportation > Environmental > Geotech > Water resources.

4) What is the ranking of the colleges in US??

5)Can I come back to India later??
A) Well, you always can and the work experience abroad is only gonna add to your resume.
